How to Make a Mod Podge Favorite Picture Flower Pot. Brought to you by Life After Empty Nest

This year I am changing jobs…and rooms. I’ve been teaching 4th grade reading for the past several years and decided to accept a Reading Coach position this year.

Come on team…we can do it….Rah Rah READ!!!

No, really…Although I will cheer anyone on…to get them to ADORE reading, in my new position I will work with teachers to improve reading instruction in their classrooms.

So what does this have to do with Mod Podge?? Well…I am trying to make my training room welcoming and cutesy (a classroom for grown-ups!) I LOVE having plants and pictures of friends and family surrounding me at work so lets do the math…

Mod Podge + plants + pictures = Favorite Picture Flower Pot

Look at me with that awesome equation and I don’t even teach math!

Supplies

I already had a terra cotta flower pot on hand so I drove to my local arts and crafts store and bought some Mod Podge. Can you believe this is my very FIRST project masterpiece I have ever created using Mod Podge?
Then I printed out some of my favorite pictures on photo paper. (I decided to do black and white)

Cutting and Mod~Podging

I cut out the pictures and starting placing them on the pot using a thin coat of Mod Podge.

I placed them randomly, overlapping at times. It was kind of like a puzzle…fitting all those beautiful faces in the PERFECT place!

I was loving the look!

When I finished placing all the pictures I put a coat of Mod Podge on top.

I have to admit…I FREAKED OUT thought I had ruined the pictures… but when it dried clear I was THRILLED! I put three coats on top, allowing to dry in-between coats.

A Touch of Ribbon

I bought some red gingham ribbon to wrap around the top but it wasn’t as easy as I thought. The ribbon had wire and I didn’t like how it laid. I really wanted the ribbon to look like it was part of the pot sooo… I cut the ribbon into small rectangles and trimmed off the wire. Then I placed them around the top one piece at a time. Then I put two coats of Mod Podge on top.

I LOVE how it turned out!

Now I will have my friends and family at work with me each day…and that brings a HUGE smile to my face!

Now what shall I make next with my left over Mod Podge? Give me some ideas!

MOD~PODGE Flower Pot THEMES:
CHRISTMAS/WINTER HOLIDAY- Green & Red with photos of Christmases Past or Winter Holiday- White & Blue with photos of Holiday Events/Snow People/Snowflakes, etc.
ENGAGEMENT/WEDDING- Bridal Color Scheme with photos of the happy couple/bridal party/family/friends, etc.
End of Year TEACHER GIFT- School colors with photos of teacher/students/field trips/classroom & school events, etc.
Just to name a few…The Theme Ideas are endless…!!!

I came across your post after looking up ways to decorate a flower pot. I'm curious: how has the decoupage held up over time with use and many plant waterings? I know that sometimes paint can bubble up over time if a terracotta pot isn't treated with sealant.

I made the pot almost a year ago and the pictures are all still fully affixed. If they start to come off you could put another coat of mod podge on. They would make great wedding gifts!

The pot has held up very well Aura! I have not had any bubbles…perhaps the Mod Podge sealed it!
